Description
Photograph of "Wedding of the rails", a re-enactment of the ceremony celebrating the connection of Los Angeles and San Francisco by the Southern Pacific Railroad, showing the crowd moving towards the center, 1926. A train stands on the left and another on the right with the crowd standing in front of them. The crowd moves towards the center space between the two trains. They are finely dressed with most of them in suits and dresses but several dressed in cowboy costumes. A man dressed as a Native American stands on the train on the left with an elderly man in a suit just in front of him. Several woman stand on the train on the right. Boys watch the festivities from a small structure in the background.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
