Description

To the left of center, the roof of a square building is visible while train tracks surround the building and lead to the bottom right of the image. Freight cars carrying cargo are visible while cars are parked to the right of center. In the background, a body of water can be seen behind the building with a large boat parallel to shore on the right and three smaller boats on the left. Small buildings and silos can be seen at the bottom and to the left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
