Photograph of the Willys-Overland groundbreaking ceremony, ca.1925. Fifteen men in formal suits of various colors stand on railroad ties looking towards the center. The man in center has his feet between the tracks while he hoists a large hammer like tool over his shoulder. To the right, more men stand off to the side down the slope of the tracks. In the right background, what appears to be a large crane is visible with two men inside.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
