Description
Photograph of the float for Polytechnic High School parading down the street in the La Fiesta de Los Angeles parade, ca.1906. The float, covered with flowers, is designed to resemble a Viking ship with the figurehead of an eagle. Women, dressed in Nordic clothing, operate the four oars on each side of the ship. Three of the women, who are not operating the oars, stand at the center of the ship at different locations (one at the bow, one at the center, and one near the aft). A sign on the ship's bow reads: "Progress". Writings on the oarlocks read: "commerce, science, industry, and [...]". A label on the front of the float reads: "class A, [...] 2". Spectators on the sidewalks watch the float pass by. Buildings and trees are visible in the background.
