Description

Photograph of men at a construction site, September 15, 1937. A group of men with their backs to the viewer seem to push at a piece of construction equipment on the right. A man to the left seems to be pulling a rope while a man to the right holds a large plank of wood underneath the machine. A railroad track runs through the image from the right foreground to the left background. The frame of a building is visible in the center background while a men appear to weld the corners of the building. The frame is complete with lights and a roof while piles of construction materials sit to the left of the building.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
