Description

Photograph of building construction, showing metal framework, September 15, 1937. Two men stand on the ground in the center of the image. Both men place a hand on a plank if what appears to be steel. The steel is piles up behind the men and to the right. In the right foreground, lined of wood sit on the sandy ground. The skeleton of a large building stands behind the piles of steel. A large crane is visible to the left of center while men can be seen standing and sitting on steel beams high in the sky. The frame of the building is nearly finished. It seems that a portion of the building to the left of center is yet to be completed because of the wide empty space.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
