Description

Photograph of a unidentified street in Palm Springs, February 4, 1926. The dirt roadway runs from the foreground to the background at center. It is lined with an assortment of low buildings, including two hotels at right. Three large early automobiles can be seen parked on the side of the road at right. Leafless trees can be seen at left, while leafy trees are visible further down the road in the background. In the distance at right, a tall mountain range is visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
