Description
Photograph of a refugee camp in Jefferson Square after the earthquake, San Francisco, 1906. A woman and a young boy with a basket stand in the sand in the foreground. A short, stone wall separates the sand from the grassy hill where hundreds of people have set up shelters. Several palm trees stand on the hill on the left while various other trees line the perimeter of the camp in the background.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
