Photograph of an exterior view of the Samarkand Persian Hotel in Santa Barbara, ca.1920. A three-story building can be seen from the side as viewed through an archway. A canopy covers some tables and chairs and part of a lily pond at left. A sidewalk leads from the archway to the canopy, while a grass lawn is visible to the right of the sidewalk. Potted plants and vines can be seen throughout.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
