Description
Photograph of an Apache Indian woman basket maker, ca.1900. She is sitting on a cloth on the ground with a partially finished basket with a star design on the bottom in her hands on her lap. Several pails and two cups sit around her. She is wearing a plaid dress over a dotted dress. Her hair is cropped above her shoulders and has bangs. Behind her is a rough wood fence or lean-to shelter. Behind the fence part of a wagon is visible in tall grass. A wooden box (reading "FFPE"[?]) and other household belongings sit on a tree branch behind her at left.
