Description

Photograph of a close-up view of the cooling system at the San Fernando Heights Orange Association, August, 1936. A meter protrudes from a lightly-colored machine in the foreground on the left while a lightly-colored, metal screen stands in front of a large machine at center. The machine has a large circle in its visible side where a belt rolls around a wheel at its center and reaches to the floor on the left. A rectangular shoot with writing on its lightly-colored sides extends from the top of the machine up to the ceiling.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
