Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the Sunkist processing plant, 1936. A set of train tracks and a parked automobile can be seen in front of the long, lightly-colored warehouse-style building, whose loading door appears to be open towards the right. Just at the nadir of the hemicylindrical roof, a collection of signs reads "Oranges", "San Fernando Heights Orange Ass'n", "Sunkist" and "Grapefruit". A train car can be seen parked next to the building to the right, while the silhouette of another automobile is visible to the far left under the shade of a tree.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
