Description
Photograph of the first dedicated fruit train leaving Los Angeles for the East with workers posed on top, Los Angeles, ca.1888. A crowd of workers stands on top of and around a locomotive fruit train, whose freight cars read "California Fast Freight Line" as well as "[...] Pacific Freight Car" where the first word has been edited out by scratching. Some workers on the coal car wave American flags while still more hang out the side window of the engineer's cabin. The caption below the image reads "Fruits for Eastern Tables--About 1888".
