Photograph of close-up view of Methodist Episcopal Church at 8th and Hope Streets, 1923-1929. At center, the large church sits at the corner of an intersection. In the foreground to the left, a line of cars can be seen parked alongside the large structure. To the right, five people can be seen walking along the arched columns of the building. Above the columns, three decorative windows can be seen. On the left side, three large, arched windows can be seen. A decorative border can be seen running along the roof of the rectangular structure. At center, the bell tower of the church can be seen rising above the rest of the structure. In the background, additional buildings can be seen. Image is heavily corrupted on the right side. Compares to CHS-41292.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
