Description
Photograph of an engraving of a portrait of Commodore (Commander?) Robb F. (L.?) Stockton, U.S. Navy, ca.1840-1860. He can be seen from the waist up looking off to the left. He has curly hair with muttonchop sideburns, but is otherwise clean shaven. He is visible wearing a military uniform with epaulettes. His sword, in its scabbard, is resting in the crook of his left arm. Stockton first captured the city of Los Angeles from Mexican forces, raising the American flag over the city on 13 August 1846.
