Description
Photograph of the painting "The First Wagon Tracks" by C.M. Russell, depicting six Indians, ca.1908. Two of the Indians squat beside an Appaloosa horse, examining the ground. A third stands behind them holding one leg up while leaning on his spear, with his horse visible behind him, facing front. A fourth man is mounted on his own horse, looking to the left. The silhouettes of two more mounted Indians can be seen on the hill in the right background. Short, desert grasses are interspersed among them at their feet.
