Description

Photograph of an exterior of a Sunkist processing plant, San Fernando Heights Orange Association, ca.1930. Two sets of tracks lie parallel in the foreground on the left while on veers out of sight on the far right and the other turns next to the plant at center. A dark train car sits on the tracks against the right wall of the plant while an automobile stands parked in front of the large, rectangular windows of the front wall. A small staircase leads to a set of double doors at the center of the plant with its sign standing at the roofs edge just above it. A second automobile is parked in the shade of a small tree on the far left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
