Description

Photograph of exterior aerial view of an unidentified factory, ca.1940. At center, the massive square exterior of an unidentified factory is visible. Parts of the factory rooftop are ridged and raised. A large plane at the midpoint of the building is completely flat unlike the rest of the roof, and it is seen connecting one side of the factory to the other. Bits of various equipment are also seen scattered on the rooftop. In the foreground of the factory, a small rectangular building lined with windows and a large central doorway is visible. Two small patches of lawn sit adjacent to the building on either side. Further to the left and right, small parking lots filled with automobiles can be seen. In the extreme foreground, lines of automobiles sit parked on the sides of a large street. In the extreme background, large amounts of automobiles are seen parked around the factory.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
