Description
Photograph of Los Angeles Pressed Brick Company in Alberhill, California, ca.1916-1920. At center in the background, a small cluster of buildings can be seen sitting in an open dirt lot. Several windows line the sides of each of the small, brick buildings, and each building has an angled rooftop. Moving to the foreground, six large cylindrical tanks sitting between two large rectangular smokestacks are visible. A small stream of smoke is seen emerging from the smokestack on the right. Another smaller smokestack is seen in the background near the cluster of buildings on the right. In the extreme foreground, a single set of railroad tracks can be seen extending from the left to the right. Two railroad cars are visible at the center of the tracks. Large pallets can be seen to the left of the cars. On the far right, two large cylindrical tanks can be seen sitting adjacent to the tracks. In the extreme background, clusters trees and hills are highly visible. See also CHS-40678 .

Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
