Description
Photograph of Father Raymond Mestres flanked by two altar boys carrying tall candlesticks in a procession at Mission San Carlos, Monterey, ca.1899. He is wearing the vestments of Father Junipero Serra. He is carrying something square with ornate carvings or decoration in his hands, which are held in front of him. The procession is along a dirt path beside a mission building. Wild vegetation covers the ground at right. Part of a broken picket fence is visible in the background. Mestres performed the wedding ceremony of Herbert Hoover and Miss Lou Henry.
