Description
Photograph of a general view looking west, from the hill to the east, at Mission Santa Barbara, and the surrounding hills, ca.1880. The two tall square bell towers flanking the front of the church are topped with domes. Four butresses support the tall walls of the side of the church at right. At left, arches front the exterior corridor of the long low building attached to the side of the church. Several other smaller structures of flimsier construction are visible. A post and rail fence runs along the dirt road which passes by the mission. A horse-drawn carriage sits in the grounds in front of the mission. A few buildings are scattered about the tree-dotted landscape in the background.
