Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Farmers and Merchants National Bank (left), looking west down 4th street from the corner of 4th street and Main street, Los Angeles, ca.1910-1930. The busy street is full of people and vehicles. Almost all of the people are dressed professionally and all of them are wearing hats. People can be seen conversing with each other, walking down the sidewalk, crossing the street, riding their bicycles, or driving their early automobiles. Streetcar rails run down the middle of the road. Utility wires dangle overhead. The tall buildings cast shadows on the people and on other buildings. The Bank stands about two-stories tall. Column-like buttresses provide support for this Greek-like building. A flagpole flying the American flag stands on top of the roof.; Legible signs include: "Union Trust Building", "Farmers and Merchants National Bank", "S. Main St.", "Va...", "MacF..., M...", "O.T. Johns..., Bl...", "... Hotel".
