Description
Photograph of the end of the patio of the adobe Hacienda Aguilar, at Mission San Juan Capistrano, California, 1885. "Old Indian Rosario Cervantes, drawing water from aged masonry well of mission construction." -- unknown author. The well is constructed of wood with stones that form a brick-like support for the base. The water bucket is attached to the well by a rope using a pulley for leverage. An unidentified wooden apparatus (about the size of a dresser) with a large wheel mounted on the front, stands next to the building. The roof of the building has both shingle-style and Spanish-style tiles and exposed rafter tails.
