Description
Photograph of the painting, "Smoke of a 45" by C.M. Russell depicting a street shootout, 1908. The cowboy at center is mounted on his horse, holding his revolver at shoulder level. He holds the reigns of a white horse he appears to be trying to steal, as well as his own. To the left of him, another mounted cowboy fires a rifle across the frame at the cowboy doubling-over on the porch of the Palace Saloon. Playing cards spill from the porch and into the ruckus in the street, and a sign on the Saloon reads "Licensed Gambling". In the background, mountains and the "Hotel Store" are depicted.
