The document details some of the history of Mission San Buenaventura and its statutes on the baptisms at this mission.; "Libro Prímero de los Bautismos, esto es en que se asistan la Partidas de los que se christianan en esta nueva Mision de infieles Seraph "D" San Buenaventura, Obispo, Cardenal, ex-Ministro de la Orden de N.S.P. San Francisco de la Salesia situada en la superior California playa de la canal S. Barbara, Perteneciente; Al Apostolico Colegio de Misioneros de propaganda Fide de San Fernando de Mexico del Orden Serafico. Fundada a expensas del Catholic S. D. Carlos III, Rey de las Espanas y de sus Indias y Dios prospere por los Religiosos de Aposotolico Colegio, y Comenzado en el solemnifico dia Domingo y agua de la Resurrecion de N.S. Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
