Description
Photograph of the intersection of 9th Street and Broadway decorated with flags and banners for a parade, [s.d.]. The sidewalks on both sides of the street are crowded with people. The street itself is full of automobiles and a streetcar. The flags are suspended from wires hung across the street from the tall buildings that line it.; Legible signs include, from left, "Pedestrian Safety Zone Auto Club of So. Cal.", "Stop", "Left Turn Prohibited", "Resources 300 Million Dollars", "Boos Bros", "Low Price Easy Pay", "Sun Drug Co.", "Barrie's Diamonds", "Comets", "Gem Co.", "Dentists Entrance Open Evenings", and "City Ordinance No Parking 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 Sundays Exce[pted] Parking 45... 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
