Description
Photograph of an Indian house at Mission San Gabriel, ca.1844. The house is in the foreground behind a wire fence. The building is made up of scrap wood and tree branches that appear to have been hastily thrown together. There is a rickety-looking wooden ladder at right. In the background, the tall adobe walls of the mission rise up above the small shack in the foreground. The mission has a large rectangular window at left and its right side is lined with buttresses. Several trees are visible at left.
