Photograph of "The Loop" on the Alaska Railroad, showing large glaciers in the background, 1935. At left in the background, a small railroad line is visible extending from behind a large mountain cliff. The railroad line can be seen connecting to a large circular loop visible at center. Additional track is also visible beyond the loop in the background. Surrounding the tracks and loop, large glaciers can be seen. In the extreme background, a large mountain range extends from the left to the far right. Caption at the bottom of the image reads: "Alaska is not a country of continual ice and snow as it is generally...".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
