Description Photograph of a panoramic view of an automobile camp on Aliso Beach, ca.1930. An open-air picnic area is visible in the center with a thin roof that seems to be made out of some kind of straw (hay?). Behind the picnic area, a few cabins are visible along with hiking trails that lead up to a road trail that runs along a mountain, which appears to lead towards a cliff seen in the right. To the right and left of the cabins, dozens of cars with tents are parked next to the cabins on the beach. People are seen standing along the shore in the far right. Another picnic area (resting area?) is distinguishable to the left of the shore. People seem to be either lying down or sitting under it. In the foreground, a partially exposed hill is seen elevated from the beach area. The silhouette of a mountain and the ocean in the horizon is visible in the backdrop.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
