Description

Photograph of people camping out on cots in front of a house, ca.1920. In the center foreground, a man is lying on a cot reading a book and a woman directly sitting right to him is reading a newspaper. Another woman wearing spectacles sits behind her and an additional woman is sitting on the ground to the left of the man. A predominantly big tree stands in the center behind them. Left of the center, women are seen resting on an aging tree trunk and a man standing right to them.; To the left of the center in the far background a woman is lying on another cot . To the right of the center, two women and two children are standing in front of a cabin. A partially visible cot is located to the right of the tree. (CHS-42629 is a divergent perspective of the same location of this photograph.)

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
