Photograph of horse-drawn carriages outside a train depot in Healdsburg, ca.1900. In the center background several horse-drawn carriages stand side-by-side, while a one-story building with a sloped roof is visible behind the carriages. A sign reading, "Healdsburg" is affixed to the side of the building. A large tree is visible at left, while its branches frame the top. Train tracks are visible running to the right of the tree from bottom right towards the left. A patch of grass is enclosed by a wooden and wire fence towards the right, while a palm tree and other trees are visible growing in the grass. A train is visible behind and to the right of the carriages and palm tree, while a man is visible standing in the opening of one of the railway cars. Utility poles and the tops of trees are visible in the background.

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
