Description
Photograph of an exterior view of a home in Toll Gate on the toll road north of Mariposa, ca.1930. A ladder leans on a stained, lightly-colored brick wall of the home. The ladder sits on the left while trees seem to drape over a shingled awning on the front wall of the house at center. The trees cover all but the dark, shingled roof of the right side of the house while only one bush can be seen in front of the abutting shed on the far left. Wooden panels surround a chimney on the left that extends through the shingled roof. "This old home was built by A.N. Bell in 1870 and is still occupied by the third generation of that family. Much of the interior of this old place is put together with wooden pegs".
