Description

Photograph of an automobile camp, showing lines of automobiles, Elysian Park, ca.1930. To the far left, a set of concrete steps are visible leading to a cabin. Also at left, a line of automobiles and tents are visible, extending into the extreme background. A similar row of automobiles can be seen to the far right. Numbered wooden logs divide the space between each of the automobiles. Between the two rows, a central dirt road lined with eucalyptus trees can be seen. A hill and additional eucalyptus trees are visible in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
