Description
Photograph of an interior view of the electronic assembly area at the Bendix-Pacific factory in Los Angeles, 1950-1960. Several technicians are standing around workbenches in the foreground, tinkering with large computer systems. Shelves in the background store extra parts for the radar and sonar equipment assembled at the plant. The room is lit by large lights that hang from the ceiling.; Legible signs include: "Restricted Area Unauthorized Entrance Sufficient Cause For Dismissal", and "Work Carefully Stop Waste -- Save Material".; Photoprint reads: "More than 125,000 square feet are devoted to electronic assembly of such components and systems as airborne radar and sonar, all electronic equipment must be carefully inspected and tested at many stages during final assembly. Typical inspection area at Bendix-Pacific is shown".

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
