Photograph of a group of women sitting on the steps in front of Healdsburg High School in Healdsburg, ca.1900. At center a white two-story building is visible from the front. Tall, skinny windows with curved tops are visible on both stories and are mostly visible in side-by-side pairs. Several stairs lead to the front door, while six women are visible sitting on the top of the stairs. All of the women are visible wearing long skirts and blouses, while some wear hats. A bicycle is visible leaning against the stairs to the right. A dirt path leads from bottom center up to the stairs, while two trees are visible on the lawn to the left and right of the door. Trees are also visible to the left and right of the building.

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
