Description
Photographic portrait of the Lopez family gathered at the old home for the 50th wedding anniversary, 1901. Men and women cluster together on the patio of a one-story adobe house which the picture file card identifies as the "old ranch house". In the front row, an adolescent boy is seated on the ground, clutching his knee to his chest, while four of his elders sit behind him on chairs. To the right, an elderly man with a long, white beard is dressed in a suit, an elderly women seated to either side of him, although the woman to the right appears to be older. To the far left of the row, a third woman is seated, who appears to be in her early fifties. The rest of the group appear to be middle-aged, the younger of whom wear bolero dress. Picture file card reads "Names in Photo File". Anniversary of Dona Catalina Lopez and Don Jeronimo Lopez, who were married in 1851. Photoprint reads: "The old Lopez Shel[...] on the Toll Road 1890-1900?".; An additional information card lists the name of those in the picture: "1. Rubina Lopez de Dominguez, 2. Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
