Description
Photograph of a Walapai baby wrapped in a papoose basket, ca.1900. The papoose basket consists of a wicker-type(?) board and cloth. A cloth rope or belt is used to keep the baby wrapped to the basket. Only the head and the feet of the baby are exposed. The baby, who appears to be one to two years old, appears to be comfortably hung on the wall in the background. The wall is covered with striped rugs (or blankets?).
