Description
Photograph of exterior of an unidentified factory, showing a group of people gathered near the base of a smokestack, ca.1930. At center, a massive smokestack extends above many of the buildings shown. The smokestack has a wide cylindrical base, with a thinner cylindrical top. Near the top of the smokestack, a spherical mesh of wires and cloth can be seen. At the base of the smokestack, a group of ten men stand near a small rectangular door. The two parts of the door have been pulled back, and a raging fire is visible within. The men, wearing suits and formal attire, attentively look into the fire. To the left of the smokestack, a small building with a pitched roof and three rectangular windows can be seen. In the foreground, a small wooden roof adjacent to the building can be seen with various tool sprawled on its roof. To the right of the smokestack, a similar towering structures is visible with a large ramp leading to a small entryway at the side of the structure. In the background, a large rectangular building can be seen with a small rectangular shack and cone-shaped funnel atop its roof. The bottom of the funnel is connected by a pipe to other various parts of the factory. Directly behind the smokestack, a mesh of large pipes can be seen extending to the far left side of the image.
