Description
Photographic portrait of the Del Valle family, at their family picnic at Camulos Ranch, Ventura County, California, ca.1900. Over fifty members sit, kneel or stand while posing for the camera. Several women near the center front are wearing similar polka-dot dresses. A woman in the center of the front row is holding a steer skull. The fourth person over to her left is a man strumming his guitar. The group of people over on the left is sitting on a blanket. Several square shaped boards are scattered about on the wild grass. A horse attached to a carriage is parked directly behind another carriage where a man sits posing for the camera. The surrounding trees provide shade from the sun. Most of the men are wearing suits. Majority of the people are wearing hats.
