Description
Photograph of an aerial view of Gladding, McBean & Company (former Los Angeles Pressed Brick Company), May 1928. At center, the large square, multi-level complex of the company can be seen. On the roof of the building, numerous small packages are visible. To the left and right of the building, several elongated buildings with pitched roofs can be seen. Additionally, large cylindrical containers are also visible. Seven large, darkly-colored towers in the shape of smokestacks are also seen, and three smaller towers are visible just at the base of the complex. To the far left, rows of containers and other materials are seen in stacked piles. To the far right and extending to the bottom-right, numerous small buildings and industrial equipment can be seen. In the far bottom-left, piles of wood and rods are visible. Several roads are seen moving through the industrial site, and a solitary road weaves along the hillside at the top of the image.; This plant was the former Los Angeles Pressed Brick Company. GMcB acquired the Los Angeles Pressed Brick Company in 1926.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
