Description
Photograph of a horse-drawn wagon outside the gate at White Sulphur Springs in Vallejo, Solano County, ca.1900. At center a wagon pulled by six horses and filled with several dozen people is visible from the side. To the right of the wagon is a white gate that reads, "White Sulphur Springs". To the right of the gate is a two-story building viewed from the front with a porch and multiple small windows visible on the second story. Several small children, some wearing overalls, are visible standing in front of or near the wagon. A group of men wearing suits are visible standing to the left, while another man is visible standing next to one of the horses. A man is visible to the right on a bicycle, while a dog lays in front of the wagon. Tall trees are visible in the background along with a rocky mountain to the right.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
