Description
Photograph of the rear view of Castle Granaditas (Alhóndiga de Granaditas), Guanajuato, Mexico, ca.1905-1910. The boxy structure has a short staircase leading to an entry upon which several people stand. More people stand in the foreground near an adjacent building including a man holding a trombone. Part of the city is visible in the background (right) down the hill. Legible signs include: "Café de Granaditas., [...]os y cigarros de las mejores, Marcas. Limonadas y sodas gaseosas. Licores finos y Cerv"..., "Hidalgo", ..."Plaza de torr[...]gavirra"... The Castle is located at the corner of 28 de Septiembre and Cuesta de Mendizabal Streets (both, current names). "When the Insurgents took the City of Guanajuato, Spanish people found shelter in this place. Eventually, Mexicans took it on September 28, 1910" -- Dr. Jesus Roberto Duarte, 2016-03-07.
