Photographic portrait of Mrs. Giddings (wife of J.R. Giddings), a pioneer of Pasadena, May 1876, taken when she was a young woman (small, upper left corner). Viewed from the chest up. She is wearing a dark top with a necklace. Her dark curly hair falls over her forehead and down the back of her head. She is gazing slightly to her left. "May, 1876" -- caption. She and her husband arrived in Pasadena in 1876.; Photographic portrait of Mrs. Giddings (wife of J.R. Giddings), a pioneer of Pasadena, ca.1890-1910. Taken when she was an older woman (large, bottom). Viewed from the knees up. She is sitting, leaning on the wooden arm of a chair or bench with her left arm. She holds a mirror or purse in her right hand laying on her lap. She is wearing a light-colored form-fitting pleated dress with long arms and cinched with a sash. She has a tight beaded necklace about her neck. Her dark wavy hair is parted in the middle. She is gazing slightly upward.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
