Description
Dorothy in Hollywood, Los Angeles, 1994, L.A. Youth Network, exterior, 1550 Gower Street (between Sunset Boulevard and Selma Avenue), Hollywood. The story of the Wizard of Oz becomes a metaphor for homelessness in Hollywood, because in the story Dorothy is trying to find her way home. Hollywood Boulevard becomes the Yellow Brick Road, but instead of movie star names inside the stars, the services offered by the Youth Network are given. Embodied in the silhouette of the wicked witch are other silhouettes showing needles, AIDS -- the dangers of the streets. Acrylic, by Elizabeth Garrison and Victor Henderson. Sponsored by Social and Public Art Resource Center.-- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 98, #38.
