Becoming the circle, Venice, 2002
Description
Becoming the circle, Venice, 2002. Pioneer French Baking Company, 512 Rose Avenue, Venice. "The mural is in four panels. The first and second panel shows a parade that merges issues reminiscent of an actual community parade that was discontinued at the beginning of World War II. Participants are drawn from present-day members of the neighborhood. Local trees and gardens form the background of the panels. In the second panel an older woman unfurls a quilt amidst segments of Venice's vanishing architectural heritage. A female drummer and a young girl with arms raised to the sun are in the third panel. The final phase once again shows people parading, but more in a collective march for a cause." Acrylic, by Francisco Letelier. Sponsored by SPARC. -- http://www.betsysellsvenice.com/convertedpages/venicemurals.html; http://you-are-here.com/mural/circle.html; http://www.lamurals.org/Newsletters/0602Newsltr/0602B.html#NewMurals0602.
