Description
Hollywood jazz, 1945-1972, Los Angeles, 1990, Capitol Records, exterior, 1750 North Vine Street, Hollywood. From left to right: Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie (Bird) Parker, Tito Puente, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Shelly Manne, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, and Duke Ellington. Acrylic on concrete, 26' x 88', by Richard Wyatt. Sponsored by LA Jazz Society and LACAD. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, p. 90, #27. It was restored in 2013 with funding from Capital Records. "Wyatt set about restoring the mural in November 2012" after the mural faded to the point that "he could see the original outline marks that he painted to guide him"; "for the restoration, it has been re-created from photos of the original, this time fired onto 12-inch-square ceramic tiles for longer life: 2,288 of them, to be precise" according to Wyatt -- "Hollywood Jazz" mural lives on more brightly" , Los Angeles Times, February 18, 2013 at http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/culture/la-et-cm-hollywood-jazz-mural-20130219,0,1467048.story
