Title
Home Savings of America, Hollywood, 1970
Description
Home Savings of America, untitled, Los Angeles, 1970. Interior and exterior of Home Savings of America, now Chase building, Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street (northeast corner), Hollywood. Of the close to 40 Home Savings that Sheets designed, this was one of his personal favorites. It sits on the site where the first full-length Hollywood film was made. Outside, at the building's front and rear, are portraits of major movie stars in vertical mosaic strips alternating with hundreds of famous Hollywood names carved in gold. A stained glass window inside, designed by Susan Hertel, shows film strips of classic movie chase scenes. A painted Sheets' mural, also inside, shows the shooting of the first Hollywood feature. Designed by Millard Sheets and Susan Hertel. Executed by Denis O'Connor. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, p. 84, #4.
