Description
Photograph of a drawing (painting?) by Edward Vischer depicting a front view of Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo's church in Monterey, October 1867. The large, two-story adobe building seems to be constructed in an arabesque style, its main bell tower having a large, decorative spire on its top, peaked by a cross. A similarly-spired tower to the right is also built into the building. At center a curved rooftop is situated above the arched doorway and rosetta window of the entrance. What appears to be the silhouette of a donkey stands in the yard to the front. Text written-in beneath the image reads "Front-View of the Church".
