Description
Detail 3 of 4 of Map makers of the world, 1939, Virgil Junior High School, interior library, 152 North Vermont Avenue (near Beverly Boulevard). On the south wall are Norseman Leif Erickson landing on Vineland, Marco Polo arriving at the court of Kublai Khan, and Columbus landing on an island in the Bahamas. On the north wall are Magellan passing through the stormy straits in 1568, Captain Cook exploring the South Sea Islands, and Admiral Byrd in Antarctica. 2 panels, 3' x 30' (each), by Bessie Peirce Heller.
