Description
Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting the El Jolon Stage Station in Monterey County, June 26, 1875. Cattle and goats graze in a field in the foreground surrounded by a post-and-rail fence, behind which the Stage Station is visible. A modest one-story supply building with a thatch-roof portico can be seen to the right. Words on the building read: "Grocery", "Store", and "Post Office". Trees dapple the hill behind it. Text written-in below the image identifies the site and area and also reads: "Modernized Spanish Ranch House", as well as "Henry C. Dodge, Proprieter".
